I never get tired of painting lobsters and I find there are so many different ways in which I can paint them. In the case of these two magnificent creatures, my technique involved emphasising bright colours and creating expressive-looking marks. They are also painted less precisely than in some of my other works. This was deliberate and helps to bring movement to these studies, as though the lobsters are flailing around in the water. And so you have a fresh ‘take’ on an existing subject matter – ideal for buyers who might like to display a number of paintings which have the same theme but are expressed differently.
