Feeling inspired by George Baselitz – I need to view the painting as a whole, it’s not really about the fish, it’s about the entire canvas…by painting upside down I am forced to focus on the structure, texture, colour and proportion rather than getting bogged down with small detail… I guess what I’m doing is going in an abstract direction whilst still hiding behind the safety blanket of a recognisable subject matter?
